Volunteer Spotlight: George Dietzel
Whether behind the camera, driving the fire truck or assisting with groundwork at emergency calls, volunteer George Dietzel plays an important role at Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2.
George heard about volunteer opportunities at Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2 when he was on a camping trip with his boy scout troop. George volunteered as Scout Group Leader and often listened to the scouts talk about what it’s like volunteering at the fire company.
“They encouraged me to join the fire company since I lived four blocks away,” said George. “About 25 years ago, I was on my front porch and one of the juniors dropped off an application.”
George has been with the Conshohocken Fire Company ever since. About ten years ago he started taking photos at training nights as the unofficial photographer and around the same time became the assistant engineer.
“One time I was at the station and a woman passed by with her kids and they were looking at the fire trucks,” said George. “The mother said to her kids, ‘Every time you hear that siren go off that means this man and others are going to help people.’ That really stuck with me.”
Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2 is an all-volunteer fire company, committed to keeping borough residents safe.
“Volunteering is about being sincere, selfless and fully dedicated to helping others,” said George.
Community members interested in volunteering with Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2 can fill out an inquiry form on the website and a member of the fire company will be in touch.
